Cincinnati Art Museum *WIP

Objective

Work within a team of designers to complete client requests for museum signage, member magazine content, and merchandise creation.

Client

The Cincinnati Art Museum

Deliverables

New spreads for the member magazine, a tote bag design, and  museum signage made in-house.

Member Magazine

The CAM Member Magazine serves as an essential means of communication to museum members. The design of the calendar page had to be reworked to help condense the multitude of events that take place at CAM. The Exhibition Sponsors page also had to be reworked to give adequate thanks to museum donors.

Strategy

The main challenge was condesing a lot of information on the museum calender. I used a bolder typeface and our brand purple to give the dates prominence in the heirarchy. Grouping events by whether they are recurring or individual helped the layout feel less cluttered. An icon system was developed so patrons know whether tickets, reservations or virtual attendence are an option.

Magic Mirror Tote

The Magic Mirror is a bronze disc in the CAM East Asian art collection that was discovered to have a hidden image when light was projected onto it. This prompted media attention and plans to design and produce tote bags inspired by the discovery.

Strategy

Museum merchandise utilizes a our signature red and white with minimal detail. This design is very minimal as per the museum merchandise style and utilizes figure ground to make the type on the disc stand out. In early iterations I depicted the Buddha image that the disc created as an alternative option.

Museum Signage

CAM produces a lot of its signage and labels in-house. I lended my skills to the Unlocking an Art Deco Bedroom by Joseph UrbanHenry Mosler Behind the Scenes: In Celebration of the Jewish Cincinnati Bicentennial, and other established exhibitions as needed.

Strategy

CAM produces a lot of its signage and labels in-house. Sign production involved adhering to accessibility standards for type layout and size, learning to work with an industrial, printer, and carefully crafting the signs for exhibitions.
